Essendon Football Club is mourningtherecent passing of former under 19’s coach Ray ‘Slug’ Jordon, aged 75.

Jordon coached the club’s under-19 teamfor five seasons from 1986 to 1990 taking them to five final series.

He was not able to win a premiership withthe team but was known for his ability to instill a fighting spirit among thegroup.

‘Slug’ worked alongside Kevin Sheedy,boasting an impressive winning percentage of 62.93 percent in his time at theclub.

Jordon played at a VFA level for Coburgand was a leading wicketkeeper touring India and South Africa as Australia’sreserve gloveman in 1970.

He later went on to be under-19 coach atRichmond and North Melbourne before he coached Melbourne’s reserves.

Ray played a key role in the recruitmentand development of Irishman Jim Stynes when he came to Melbourne at the end of1984.

Jordon’s funeral will be held inRichmond today, honouring the life of a great character in Australian sport.
