There has been minimal trade news so far this week for the Bombers during the annual exchange period at Etihad Stadium.
Essendon general manager football operations Paul Hamilton said the club had been involved in some preliminary discussions with other clubs.
“We’ve been active in terms of talking to all the clubs and that is essentially what this period is all about,” Hamilton said.
“We know that there is an opportunity to try and improve our list and that is how we are approaching the week.”
“If we can better our position in the draft or bring players into the club that are going to assist the club for the future then we will actively pursue that direction.”
Trade week opened at 9.30am on Monday with the father-son bidding and is set to conclude next Monday.
Hamilton said it was too early to determine if the Bombers would play a part in this year’s trade proceedings.
“We’ll continue to talk to the clubs and see if anything comes up but at this stage we don’t have too much to report.”
Essendon Football Club is delighted to announce the re-signings of key midfield duo David Zaharakis and Travis Colyer. Zaharakis has committed to a new three-year deal that will see him wearing the red and black until the end of the 2014 season, while Colyer has signed a two-year contract that will see him through to the end of the 2013 season.
