There has been plenty of discussion about the crop of young players developing within the confines of Windy Hill and, if today’s first day of testing is anything to go by, it seems they are doing everything they can to drive the Bombers forward.

Essendon Fitness Coach, Joel Hocking, is confident about the future of the Bombers’ playing group given the top three place winners in the phosphate recovery test (repeat sprint testing) in Heath Hocking, Angus Monfries and Bachar Houli are aged 20 or younger.

The test measures a players' ability to sprint, recover then repeat during a series of training drills.

""It is a great effort for those three guys to finish top of the test today because they are all young and they are really pushing the senior guys along,"" Joel Hocking said.

""These players are potentially the future of the football club and are looking to be in contention for more senior games in 2008 and it is really promising to see them pushing for it and making an impact early on.""

Joel Hocking was particularly impressed with the results with Heath Hocking who, after being promoted to the senior list from the rookie list at the end of last season, is making significant inroads in his journey to AFL football.

""Heath certainly has a lot of potential,"" he said.

""I think he is an all round package and, although he has always tested well, it is now up to Heath to make an impact on the field.

""These fantastic results have almost become expected from Heath, so now we know what he can do aerobically, it is a matter of what he can do from a skills point of view that will see him secure a regular place in the seniors.""

Joel Hocking was also excited about the development of lightening paced youngster Courtney Dempsey, who despite not finishing in the top three, has been one to watch.

""Over the past eight weeks, Courtenay has pretty much resumed a full training regime,"" he said.

""After struggling with hamstring issues last season, Courtenay has been 100 percent committed to working through his injury and has been able to post some positive results in our repeat effort testing today.""
