EssendonFootball Club is pleased to welcome the famous Daniher surname back to WindyHill after selecting Joe Daniher through the Father/Son bidding process.

The club will use its first roundpick to select Joe at the AFL National Draft on November 22.

Joe follows in the footsteps of hisfather Anthony Daniher who played 118 games for Essendon between 1987 and 1994.

He also joins his brother Darcy anduncle’s Terry, Neale and Chris to call Essendon home.

Standing 201cm tall and weighing90kg, the ruckman-forward earned All-Australian selection after his standoutperformances for Vic Metro at this year’s AFL Under-18 National Championships.

Joe was also named in the TAC CupTeam of the Year despite playing just seven games for the Calder Cannons.

The 18 year-old said he was excitedthe formalities of becoming a Bomber were finally over.

“To now be officially part of thefootball club is something I've aspired to do for so long,” said Daniher.

“I’ve spent the past year trainingby myself at Windy Hill, so while most of the guys will probably be dreading abig pre-season, I can’t wait.”

Senior coach James Hird said he waslooking forward to Joe joining his teammates for the start of pre-season onNovember 1.

“Joe is a very talented young man witha good head on his shoulders,” said Hird.

“Our job over the next couple ofmonths is to get his body ready for the physical demands of an AFL season.”

“We’re not going to set any expectations for when Joewill play, we just want him to continually improve and work hard, and if wethink he’s ready to play, he will.”
