It is a magnificent sign for the Bombers as they prepare to embark on a new era and a result that has given the new coaching panel and young playing group a real confidence boost.
""This Club has a real challenge in front of it to get better on field and we have made some changes to try and address that issue,"" Essendon Managing Director Peter Jackson said.
""Change always brings a sense of anticipation and things have changed on a number of fronts.
""I think members are looking forward to watching the progress of players like Scott Gumbleton, Leroy Jetta, Alwyn Davey and Paddy Ryder.
""There will be some frustrations along the way but there will also be some excitement.
""I know the players and Matthew Knights have really appreciated the support.
""This will be a very challenging year for the Club - we are under no illusions about that and the members understand that as well. But we can feel more confident about tackling what lies ahead with such fantastic support.""
Essendon first year players - and a few interested second year players - today completed cooking lessons as part of their induction program. The compulsary lessons - which were held by the Club for the first time - concluded today and were run by professional chef, John Casey, who also cooks for Victorian Institute of Sport athletes.
