In his address to the media at Windy Hill this afternoon, Sheedy explained that there may be as many as five changes to the Essendon line-up for the clash with an in-form Kangaroos outfit this Friday night.
""We will definitely get a couple back this week so from that point of view it will be excellent,"" Sheedy said.
""David Hille will come back in and as far as the other players go and who will come in will depend on how they train tonight.""
Sheedy suggested that he was not afraid to test the skills of some of the younger members of the team and was prepared to cull more experienced players from the line-up if their performances didn’t improve.
""Well we have players like Davey who has probably been the best player that we have brought in this year and he wasn’t even our first pick this year and there are others like Tom Hislop who would be a chance if he wasn’t suspended for two weeks.
""So in that respect it really puts pressure on our other guys like (Jobe) Watson, (Angus) Monfries and (Mark) Bolton who have been in the system for a while now.
""But we know where we are and the fans do too and they would love to see another player come into the team in the next week because every club needs that in order to get in some marquee players.
""We have to give these young guys the opportunity so when Hird retires at the end of the year, we will have our next Hird.""
However Sheedy adamantly denies speculation the Bombers have written off the 2007 season in order to rebuild their list.
""I don’t think anybody has written the year off. You don’t write the year off, you just ask the question about when you start loading some new talent into the team.
""That probably swings the balance from being very competitive to less competitive but it’s a hard balance. It’s very, very difficult.
""We need to keep adjusting our team so that to make sure that wherever we end up at the end of this year we have done enough to make sure that we can go on and better it next year.""
