St.Kilda has made headlines this week when they delisted ruckman Matthew Capuano. The 27-year-old had until the end of the season on his contract. Before the National Draft it was common practice that players changed clubs during the season but it is unusual in recent years. Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy said he probably wouldn't consider dropping a player mid-way through the season but commented that St.Kilda obviously had good reasons for making the decision.

Q. The only reason St.Kilda gave is that it was due to lack of form.
A. Well I suppose as long as they are capable of paying him out. The only thing is it restricts him from playing anywhere else this year and that is one of the hardships for the player. It is quite awkward for Capuano but St.Kilda must be thinking of bringing on another ruckman and giving a rookie an opportunity. It is a hard call but I think St.Kilda have been making some pretty good calls lately.

Q. Would you be an advocate for a player that does get sacked to go to another club in that season?
A. Well it would be pretty awkward but it would only relate to a few clubs that have room in their salary cap. He mustn’t be playing well and they mustn’t think much of his future if they are going to sack him. Would there be a club that would want a player that has been sacked?

Q. Given that ruckman don't fall out of trees are you surprised they just haven't kept him at Springvale as insurance?
A. Possibly so but it might just be a case that the rookie they are bringing up is just in fantastic form and they want to play him. But you wouldn't want to have a couple of ruckman injured in the next 12 weeks and you are looking to be in the finals. Or you got to the finals and you lost a ruckman - it can cost you the game. There is a risk there but he is prepared to take it.
