""We’ve let ourselves down for too long in that situation and we let ourselves down last week. It’s not good enough,"" he said.
At the end of the home and away season in 2002 the Bombers finished in fifth spot. Last year it was eighth. Both years they were beaten in a semi-final in Adelaide at the hands of the Port Power.
Sheedy knows the Bombers must finish in the top four to boost their chances in September. The first step is to defeat the in-form Dockers at the newly named ‘Pressure Cooker’ this Friday night.
""They’re (Fremantle) in pretty good form. They beat West Coast over there in a derby this year and they had a terrific win over Brisbane last week,"" Sheedy said.
Sheedy said that last week’s performance against Geelong was disappointing, given the Bombers were in front late in the third quarter of the match. ""We got to the lead and didn’t go on with it so we’ve got to pick a better side and make sure the players’ attitude is spot on,"" he said.
The club will be buoyed by the return of skipper James Hird after recovering from an eye injury quicker than expected. Hird will provide a key match up for an in-form Docker midfield that includes Paul Hasleby, Peter Bell and likely opponent Matthew Pavlich.
The Bombers may also include some taller players to cope with the height friendly Fremantle line-up. ""Kepler Bradley has been very consistent and is knocking on the door for a game. Aaron Henneman has been back for a couple of weeks, so both players are in the mix,"" Sheedy said.
