Essendon midfielder Sam Lonergan looks set to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a grade three tear to the medial ligament in his left knee.

Lonergan was substituted out of the game before half time during Friday night’s 65-point loss to Hawthorn, and will undergo scans in the next 24 to 48 hours to determine the full extent of the injury.

Captain Jobe Watson is likely to be sidelined for the next three weeks after sustaining a strain to his hamstring- the opposite leg which kept Watson out for three matches after the Bombers’ Round 8 clash against Brisbane.

Essendon has been dealt a further blow with defender David Myers also set to miss the next two to three weeks with a slight hamstring strain. Both Watson and Myers will undergo scans in the next 24-48 hours and more information will be provided when the results become available.

Jake Melksham has recovered well from Friday night’s game following general body soreness and is likely to be available for selection this week.
