Essendon utility Stewart Crameri was today promoted to the club’s senior list as a replacement for emerging defender Anthony Long.

Crameri, 22, made a significant impact in the Bombers’ NAB Cup campaign earlier this year and is now available for selection in Essendon’s Round 1 clash with the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said Crameri’s impressive pre-season made him the natural choice to be promoted to the primary list.

“We have been very pleased with Stewart’s progress over the pre-season and also his performance in our four NAB Cup games,” Hamilton said.

“As a result, we are giving him this opportunity by elevating him and making him eligible to play AFL for the period that Anthony Long is on the long-term injury list.

“Stewart has put his head down and prepared well throughout the pre-season. He works hard and has been able to impress the coaching staff with the way he has gone about his work over the past three months.”

Crameri was drafted to Essendon via selection 43 in the 2009 Rookie Draft following a stint at the club’s VFL affiliate Bendigo Bombers. He made his AFL debut in Round 20 of the 2010 season, playing three games for the season.

Long was placed on the long-term injury list last week after struggling to overcome a reoccurring hamstring complaint.
