So just how will the Bombers get over the reigning premiers Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night? We can almost hear everyone reading this story saying as one – ‘stop Warren Tredrea’. But that is easier said than done as recent history would suggest.

Tredrea’s overall record against Essendon is solid – 37 goals from 13 games – but his last three games against Essendon have yielded bags of three, six and seven. He is a star and Essendon will need to keep him to a modest total if they are to win on the weekend and really get their season kick started.

""He is a terrific player and his form this season has been as good as ever. He is a key player there is no doubt about that,"" Essendon assistant coach Dean Wallis said. ""We have spent a lot of time looking at him this week because we need to keep him as quiet as possible – history shows if you do that you are a good chance of winning the game.""

""We have a number of options - Kepler Bradley played on Pavlich last week and we ran Adam McPhee on him for a while last week as well. But the key to shutting down these players is getting some help from other players in the area as well. You need a committed effort from everyone in that part of the ground.""

Dustin Fletcher could also get a crack at Tredrea – perhaps even first crack depending on how close to goal Port Adelaide decide to play Tredrea. And Scott Lucas might be the wildcard - he has done the job in the past. But the Bombers won’t want it to be all one way traffic.

""You have got to make him accountable where you can as well so we won’t look to be totally negative when it comes to that match up. If his opponent can create a couple of opportunities the other way then that comes into the equation as well,"" Wallis said.
