Fast-paced midfielder Ben Howlett says a gruelling pre-season training under new coach James Hird will put him in good stead for a big 2011 season.
“Hird has taught me a new approach in regards to how I position myself on the field, how to improve my running style and aerobic capacity, and essentially my overall work rate,"" Howlett said.
""Hirdy (James Hird), Welly (Sean Wellman), Goody (Simon Goodwin) and Macca (Brendan McCartney) all have a very strong knowledge of the game so all the players are really enjoying the training and we are already learning a lot ahead of next season.
“It’s noticeable that the boys are more enthusiastic and doing everything we can to prepare ourselves to improve on-field next season.""
Taken with selection number 30 in the 2009 Rookie draft, Howlett says his experience at Windy Hill has been nothing but positive and has been grateful for the 15 games he notched up in his first season.
“I wasn’t even expecting to get picked by the club, so naturally I am overjoyed that I was listed and have really enjoyed all of the opportunities I have been given so far,"" he said.
Returning from a week long holiday at the Gold Coast, Howlett is already stuck into the intense training at Windy Hill for the upcoming 2011 season.
“I am hoping for a consistent season, to push myself and my capabilities and to get some wins on the board,"" he said.
