The Bendigo Bombers have bounced back to win their Round 2 VFL clash, thrashing Port Melbourne by 49-points with the help of Essendon stars Jay Neagle, David Myers and Mark McVeigh.

After a close first half, Bendigo made a break in the second half to win comfortably by eight goals.

Bendigo 16.13 (109) to Port Melbourne 8.12 (60).

Coach Shannon Grant said that Neagle and McVeigh made a positive contribution in leading the group.

“Neagle and Mc Veigh were very good, they really led by example today,” Grant said.

“Alwyn Davey and Jason Laycock were also great, it very pleasing.”

Jason Cloke lead the 10 individual goal-kickers booting three goals while Neagle, young Essendon player Michael Still and Hayden Skipworth also had an impact scoring two goals.

McVeigh proved dangerous from a half-back flank and kicked two goals to show that he has recovered well from a bout of blood poisoning.

Grant said the win was a vastly improved group effort following their 45-point Round 1 defeat to last year’s grand finalists, the Northern Bullants.

“I think today everyone contributed, whereas last week we relied just a few key players,” he said.
