The Bendigo Bombers’ finals aspirations are now in question after suffering a heartbreaking 1-point loss to the Gold Coast at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns today.

The eighth-ranked Bendigo led the thirteenth-ranked Gold Coast side comprehensively in the first half of the match, sitting on a comfortable 40-point lead at half time.

However, the young Gold Coast side launched a thrilling come-back in the second half, scoring 11.7 to Bendigo’s wasteful 4.8 to claw their way back into the match and win by the smallest of margins, 13.12 (90) to 13.11 (89).

In the teams' last meeting in Round 5, Bendigo was able to overcome the pressure applied by the Gold Coast to score a hard-fought 26-point victory.

Essendon's Bachar Houli was named best on ground for Bendigo, scoring two goals, while Mark Williams, Kyle Hardingham and Ben Duscher also scored two goals each.

Myers was also solid all day.

Bendigo will now have to fight hard to regain a commanding position in the VFL top eight as finals contenders.
