AFL chief Executive, Andrew Demetriou, has thrown his support behind Essendon Managing Director, Peter Jackson, and Chairman, Ray Horsburgh, after the Save Essendon group yesterday delivered a resolution calling for an Extraordinary General Meeting to remove the two men.
Demetriou described the situation as ""nonsense"" and Jackson as one of the best administrators in the AFL.
""If any disenfranchised Essendon members want to voice their disapproval, there is an avenue for them for that,"" Demetriou said referring to the club's Annual General Meeting. ""I dont know who these people are but I would urge them to seriously reconsider going down that path.
""Peter Jackson is one of the best chief executives going around, by far. He has been at Essendon for 10 years and built the club up to be one of the powerhouses of the AFL.
""The Essendon board is one of the best we have in the competition and some of this stuff going around is nonsense.""
The demand for an EGM was lodged with the Club yesterday and the meeting - which will cost the Club around $40,000 to stage - must be held within two months.
James Hird and Kevin Sheedy may have taken part in their last match for the Bombers but you can make sure you remember all the exciting moments of their Essendon careers with official AFL photos now available for purchase online.
