Essendon Football Club wishes to clarify comments made by Damian Barrett on The Footy Show on Thursday night relating to Mark Thompson's salary. The statements made by Damian Barrett were categorically false.
The Club has never and will never publicly disclose the remuneration arrangements relating to player or coach contracts and refutes the unsubstantiated figures mentioned which were factually incorrect.
Mark Thompson was appointed as an assistant to James Hird in 2010. Thompson said the decision was a result of him not wishing to be a senior coach anymore. It was not about money or ego but about returning home to Windy Hill to help out a former premiership teammate.
