The red and black family turned out in force last night for the 2002 Essendon Football Club Chairman's Season Launch at Palladium, Crown.The event honoured the 1962 premiership team and paid tribute to the late Jack Clarke. Clarke captained the 1962 premiership team and passed away late last year after a short illness. In an emotional tribute, Ron Clarke fondly remembered his brother Jack and his life time achievements including his dedication and passion for the Essendon Football Club.

Members of the 1962 premiership team attended the function and were honoured on stage at the start of the night by the 900 guests. Teammates Geoff Leek and Barry Davis spoke about the strong bond of the 1962 team and the strength of their leader Jack Clarke. A moving video presentation highlighted Jack's playing and coaching career at Essendon and his dedication to triathlons - something he was heavily involved in after his football career. His wife Joan, daughter Sue and son Ian attended the event and received a standing ovation from the guests.

Following the tribute the future champions of the Essendon Football Club were introduced to the Essendon faithful. Ron Clarke presented the 2001 draftees with their jumpers - the biggest applause was given to new recruit Paul Salmon. Salmon told the crowd his main reason for returning to the club he called home for he first 12 years of his career was to win the 2002 premiership. Current players Danny Jacobs and Damien Peverill were awarded their new guernsey numbers. Danny Jacobs was presented with Dean Wallis' jumper - number 21 and Damien Peverill will wear number 11 - Damien Hardwick's old number.

MC Craig Willis presented the 2002 Essendon squad to the audience and captain James Hird spoke on behalf of the team. To conclude the evening, coach Kevin Sheedy addressed the ballroom. Sheeds spoke about the strength of the team and the players eagerness to get the season underway.
