With the AFL season well and truly underway, RADD - Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes against Drink Driving, have released the latest Television Community Service Announcement, launched on July 1st 2011 at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
Davey, who lost his father in a car accident at a young age, urges all youths - both indigenous and non indigenous - to ‘‘keep their mates, family and friends safe” and to “think before you drink.”
RADD creates and uses celebrity-driven messages to raise awareness of the dangers associated with drink driving and to promote safe alternatives.
The facts about youth drink driving in Australia are pretty sobering:
- In Australia, a major cause of death for people 18-25 is road accidents.
- Road fatalities in Australia are highest amongst the 18-25-year old age group, accounting for approx. 26 per cent of all road fatalities.
- The estimated cost to Australian communities of alcohol-related road accidents for the 18-25 year old age bracket alone is nearly $1.6 billion per annum.
- Almost half those killed in drink-driving crashes are innocent victims ... someone's husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, daughter, son, partner, or friends.
