Bombers go under the knife
Retiring Bomber Sean Wellman went under the knife today to repair the shoulder he damaged in the second quarter of last weekend's semi-final clash with Geelong. And Wellman won't be the only one to spend some time in hospital with a number of players undergoing some routine 'clean up' operations to ensure they are fully recovered come pre-season.

Dean Rioli will have a knee operation later this week as will Andrew Welsh who has struggled with patella tendon problems at times during the season. Justin Murphy will have an operation on a troublesome thumb while Jason Laycock will have an operation on his calf. All players will be well and truly recovered come pre-season.
In his latest column, Engine Room fan in the outer, David Thurling, reflects on season 2004 and commends the skipper James Hird on another inspirational season. ""Surely there can be no finer teacher than James Hird from which to learn the meaning of hard work, courage and commitment. So if nothing else, the transitionary year of 2004 can be looked upon as an education for the next wave of Bomber stars,"" reports Thurling in his column.
