Essendon players have visited the community of Wadeye on day two of a four-day Northern Territory visit, proudly sponsored by Antler Luggage.

The six players this morning flew from Darwin to the remote community of Wadeye where there are huge health and violence issues.

Essendon Football Club is proud to sponsor the Wadeye Magic football team that plays a key role in bringing the community together.

Youngster Luke Davis said the experience was diverse from anything that he had been a part of before.

“It is definitely a bit different to Melbourne but the locals seem pretty happy to see us all so it was great to see the smiles on some faces,” Davis said.

“We are now in what they call the main street and there are a lot of smiling kids happy to see us as we hand out a few hats and guernseys.”

“It is just really good to be able to see them all smiling and happy to see us here.”

Davis said despite the diversity the entire community united through their love of football.

“Everyone has their different colours on with more Essendon than other teams,” he said.

“It is great to see that footy brings them all together and they all share the passion for the one thing,” he said.

“It is very different to where we come from but to see them still smiling and happy with everyone getting along its great to see.”

The players will late this afternoon head to a Wadeye Magic training session ahead of their first game in the NTFL season on Sunday.
