Andrew Welsh and Ricky Dyson will undergo surgery this week, with Matthew Knights today ruling the pair out for the remainder of the season.

Welsh flew to Sydney on Tuesday to seek specialist advice on a groin complaint that has sidelined the vice captain for the past two weeks.

“Andrew Welsh will go in for a groin operation this week,” Knights said.

“He just needed a little bit of a release so he will get that done and will be right in time for the start of the pre-season.”

Dyson will undergo an arthroscope on his knee this week.

Knights said there could be a number of changes ahead of Sunday’s clash with Brisbane with the injuries to Dyson and Zaharakis leaving at least two spots available.

“Ricky Dyson will go in for surgery and David Zaharakis has done his medial ligament so there will be at least two forced changes this week,” Knight said.

“We are obviously a few players down this week but it presents a new opportunity for the younger guys to play this week.

“We will make a decision on other player changes after the session today.”

Jason Winderlich (hand) and Dustin Fletcher (hamstring) are likely to be rested this week with the pair still overcoming injuries sustained over recent weeks.

“We also won’t be pushing Dustin and Winderlich because we have to consider their wellbeing,” Knights said.

“With the pre-season and the off-season coming up, the last thing we want to do is push the envelope with those guys and have them miss six or eight weeks in the off-season.”
