If the Bombers need any inspiration as the finals draw closer, the plight of popular clubman Peter Berbakov might give them just that.

Berbakov will miss the remainder of the season and is likely to undergo a total knee reconstruction after rupturing a cruciate ligament during Essendon's VFL match against Coburg/Fitzroy.

It is tragic news for the 26-year-old who has been in superb form for Essendon's reserves in recent weeks.

Berbakov missed the majority of last season after an horrific ankle injury and had worked exceptionally hard on his football to once again be on the verge of senior selection.

In training news, the players went for a light jog tonight in preparation for this weekend's sell-out clash with Carlton.

Dean Solomon has completely recovered from mild concussion and is a certain starter against Carlton while midfielder Chris Heffernan is a chance to resume after overcoming a knee injury.

The team will next train at Windy Hill this Wednesday night starting at 4.00pm.
