Essendon has also today added three rookies to its list to take the total to five in season 2007. Dean Dick (Perth), Danny Chartres (Peel Thunder) and Adam Ramanauskas (Essendon) were all selected in the AFL Rookie Draft and will join Heath Hocking and Lachlan McKinnon who remain on the list from 2006.
Dean Dick is a Clontarf Academy graduate who stands 190cm and weighs 87kg. He played for Western Australia in the National Under 18 Championships. He has spent most of his junior career playing as a tall defender.
""He has an ability to create time and space. He has good skills, is very well balanced and he kicks the ball exceptionally well,"" Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro said. ""He is a laconic sort of kid and the son of former Essendon player Willie Dick who played seven games for the club in 1992.""
""Danny is a 20-year-old who is about 194cm tall and weighs 95kg so he is a physically mature type of player. He has played 25 or so senior games for Peel Thunder in the WAFL. He would have represented the State at under 18 level a couple of years ago but missed with a broken hand.
""He is footy smart and is a left footer. He is also a key position defender so his selection - like that of Dean Dick - is about succession planning. It is about identifying where we need to have some options in place and recruiting accordingly.""
