Dreamtime at the ‘G continues to capture the imagination of the football public with a record crowd of 73,000 attending this year’s event.

The annual game - dedicated to celebrating the role Australian football has played in building bridges between indigenous and non-indigenous Australia – is delivered in conjunction with AFL, Richmond Football Club, the MCC and The Long Walk.

The Long Walk also broke records in 2009, with in excess of 10,000 people participating in the walk from Federation Square to the MCG – the greatest number of walkers since the event linked with the Dreamtime game in 2006. A further 24,000 people visited The Long Walk community festival at Federation Square prior to the walk, which featured fine bands, great market stalls and cool activities for kids.

The Long Walk and Essendon collectively delivered a leadership and development camp for eight young Indigenous students and eight women artists from Wadeye in the week leading up to Dreamtime at the G.

The camp formed part of the Indigenous Community Partnership Program the club delivers in conjunction with the AFL and Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

Essendon and The Long Walk would like to thank DESA Australia, AFL, MCC, QANTAS, City of Melbourne, Richmond Football Club, Australia Post, City West Water, VAYSAR, Koorie Night Market, Media Monitors, Federation Square and Rio Tinto for their support of Dreamtime at the G and associated Indigenous programs.
