Danny Chartres did his bit to help clean up the environment yesterday, getting his hands dirty in Flemington as part of the Clean up Australia Day campaign.
Chartres teamed up with representatives from the Socially Active Youth Group Organisation (SAY GO), along with the Moonee Ponds Creek Citylink Creek Connections Program, Victoria Police, Moonee Valley City Council, Jesuit Social Services and other Community and Government groups to help clean up the Flemington and Moonee Ponds creek area, including the removal of weeds, graffiti and rubbish.
The group put in a sensational effort, cleaning up over 4km of creek from Ormond Road to Macaulay Road and were later treated to a BBQ featuring a selection of traditional African food.
Essendon fans participating in the clean up had the opportunity to pose for photos with Chartres or collect an autograph from the Essendon rookie. Chartres also provided participants with EFC caps and AFL booklets.
The spacious surrounds of Subiaco Oval present an opportunity for the team when they clash with West Coast on Friday according to coach Matthew Knights. ""We have a very strong support base in Western Australia and the club is looking forward to playing on a spacious ground because we will get some valuable match fitness and practice into our players,"" he said.
