The Essendon Football Club today appointed Ashley Prescott as development coach / match day bench coach.

He joins Gary O'Donnell on Matthew Knights' four man coaching panel. The remaining two positions are still to be filled.

""Ashley will be an excellent addition to the Essendon Football Club and we are very excited to have him joining our coaching panel,"" Knights said.

""His experience will assist in developing the entire playing list at our club.

""He has a wealth of knowledge as a former player, as a coach in his own right and also as head of football operations at the Indigenous football academy, Clontarf College, where he worked closely with players including Paddy Ryder and Leroy Jetta, for the past five years.""

Prescott, 35, played 90 senior games for Richmond between 1993-98 and 40 games for Fremantle between 1999-2001 and was in the Dockers' leadership group.

He was senior coach of Claremont Football Club from 2004-07 - during which they played in three grand finals and one preliminary final - and was WAFL State team coach in 2007.

Prescott will take up his coaching position in time for Essendon's first full pre-season training session on November 7.
