It was always going to be hard for Scott Lucas to match his stellar performance of 2003 but Essendon supporters felt he was still a serviceable player in 2004. Lucas’ fan’s rating dropped with some feeling his constant switching between defence and attack made life difficult for him. Fans again see him as a key to the side’s chances in 2005.

What some of the Essendon fans had to say:

""Not the force that he was last year, but Scotty wasn't allowed to settle down into one position like last year either. Still had a good year, and hopefully we can get enough other talls playing well that he's not Mr ‘Fixit’ again next year,"" Shane King.

""With Sean Wellman's retirement, and the possible inclusion of Courtney Johns at centre half forward, Lucas may find himself in the key centre half back position on a more permanent basis - and we always have the option of moving him forward when we need an option,"" Michael Wyres.

""Didn't have the same impact as 2003, however was still solid. Although versatile Scott seemed to suffer from being shuffled between CHB and CHF. He plays both positions well and is an important part of the team but I think the team and Scott would benefit more if he played in the one position,"" Rod Ansell.

""Lucas needs to be played in his Crichton Medal winning position, which was mainly on the CHB line. Even if he didn't reach the lofty standards of the CM he still remains a very valuable player for us. I can never work out why so many are ready to knock his performances for the team,"" Helen Scully.

""Acknowledge, wasn't as good as in 2003. However, I believe he was a victim of Sheedy's insistence of moving him around to unbalance the opposition. Scott should be left to play Centre Half Back where he played his best football in 2003. I think Scotty is a player who plays well when confident and therefore the coaching staff should ensure players of the likes of Scott are left to play in one or two positions the most,"" Raine Walles.

""Consistent year at both ends of the ground- will probably spend more time in defence next year. Possibly need more than 25 goals from our CHF. Still an undervalued member of our team at times,"" Sarah Collins.

""Consistent without dominating. May be supporters will now have to face the fact that Scott is no superstar but a loyal and valuable servant of the club,"" Stuart Nixon.

""Wasn't as dominant as he was in 2003 when he was joint winner of the Crichton Medal with James Hird. He was however still more than serviceable playing at both ends of the ground. Will again be a key player for the Bombers in 2005,"" Bruce Nunes.
