Zantuck joins Ben Haynes, Marc Bullen, Sam Hunt and Damian Cupido as players not offered new contracts for 2006. Rookie Adrian Wilson has also been advised he will not be elevated to the senior list.
Zantuck was taken by Essendon in the 2005 pre-season draft and played nine senior games averaging just under 14 possessions playing deep in defence. Injuries put him out of business for much of the second half of the season.
Adrian Wilson spent three seasons on Essendon’s rookie list and looked set to get elevated to the senior side late in the season before an off field indiscretion cost him dearly. He has been an outstanding servant for the Bendigo Bombers during his time on the Essendon rookie list. Wilson will continue to train with Essendon and will nominate for the national and pre-season drafts.
Angus Monfries made a good impression with the Essendon fans in his first year at the club. Exceeding expectations, he particularly impressed the fans with his courage and attack on the ball. With a good pre-season in the gym to bulk up, they hope Monfries will get more ground time in 2006 and have an important role with the Bombers next year and beyond.
