Some of what the fan’s had to say:

“Great year. Developed sensationally as a very good centre half back and also showed he can still go forward and be a big influence.” David Plowright

“Excellent first half of season, but like so many on list disposal and lack of leg speed were a problem. Must work on these areas and aerobic capacity. Would like to see him playing on a wing. Wayne Haggar

“Had a fantastic year and really stood up when key players were out. Faded towards the end of the year. Again will benefit next year if key players are on the field. Think he is better suited for the half back or half forward flanks.” David Osborne

“Great season! Really came of age as a player. One of the best marks in the AFL, with Solomon back next year, he can get even better.” David Pryles.

“Easily Essendon's surest marking hands in 2002 given the absence of Lloyd, DJ took the big step form ""bit-player"""" to become a vital part of the Essendon line-up, whether forward or back. His form mid-season was as good as any player in the red & black - and that speaks volumes.” Danny Bishop

“Had a very good season down in the backline and his versatilty made him very effective in the forward line with his good pair of hands. He should now raise the bar and play an even better season next year.” Nghia Nguyen.

“Thought he might win the Crichton medal this year. Exceptional year. Had to cover a lot of ground with a few missing from the backline this year. Great overhead mark. Clever football brain. DJ can even play forward if need be. Need more players like him. Fantastic year. “Peter Schattner

“Probably one of the best players in the defence this season. Keeps on improving - great player.” Katherine Stephenson.

THE WASH UP:

Essendon fans said Danny Jacobs was one of the most improved players at the club this season. His sure hands and ability to play at both ends of the ground was the most impressive part of his game, according to fans. It was also felt he stood tall when a number of players were missing with injury.

MARK HARVEY SAYS:

“Danny has now got a feeling for what it takes to be a good player at the top level now and next year he must ensure he sustains his effort for the whole season. He was fantastic in the first 14 rounds and probably dropped away a little bit late in the season. That seemed to happen when we moved him around a bit late in the season so we will try and settle him in a key position next year – at which end of the ground remains to be seen. He reads the play really well and played excellent football in the backline. He must understand how important his marking is to this team.”
