Essendon key position prospect Scott Gumbleton has undergone surgery to repair some minor niggles ahead of the 2011 pre-season.

The 22-year-old had two minor operations on his thumb and finger last week and will undergo an arthroscope on his knee later this week.

“Given that Gumby (Gumbleton) is having a rest now due to his ribs, we got the doctor to give him a full check over and as it turns out he needs three separate operations,” Football operations manager Paul Hamilton told Bomber.tv.

“He has had two operations already – one was for his thumb and the other for his finger – the other one is an arthriscope on his knee which he will have this week.

“None of them are major problems - they’re just little clean-ups to get him right for the preseason.”
