Adam McPhee and Angus Monfries today joined 20 Flemington primary school children for a kick of the footy to launch the Samsung Player Pocket which will see 100 young members of the multicultural community attend this weekend’s blockbuster against Collingwood.
Speaking to the media, Monfries said he was confident he would be fit to play this weekend despite suffering a game ending ankle injury against Richmond.
""It's feeling pretty good at the moment so I just have to get through training this week and I think I will be right to play,"" Monfries said.
No health issue for McPhee who today backed Bowden's play to rush two behinds and run down the clock.
""It hasn't been a big focus for us, it was a smart thing for Joel to do and was within the rules,"" he said.
""If one of our players, say a Dustin Flecther, was in the same position I would have liked him to do the same.""
The Samsung Player Pocket will see members of the multicultural community - including some of the kids involved today - seated together and experience the atmosphere at one of the biggest home and away fixtures of the season.
They will be acknowledged by the Essendon players post-match and recognisable in their bright blue Samsung jackets and caps.
Beyond this weekend, Samsung’s support will provide the opportunity for hundreds more children from the Flemington multicultural community to attend games of AFL football this season.
The children will also be provided with an Essendon scarf and other club gifts.
Samsung’s support has also enabled Essendon Football Club to significantly ramp up its activities in the Flemington multicultural community.
Essendon’s activities in the community include an 18-week schools program, the Walk in Harmony and its annual Multicultural game.
""Thanks to the support of Samsung, hundreds of multicultural children are now able to enjoy the thrill of attending AFL games at the ground,"" Essendon chief executive officer, Peter Jackson, said.
""The generous support of Samsung enables this Club and the AFL to truly engage with members of the multicultural community and we thank them for their support.
""The AFL is committed to attracting more people to Australian Rules Football and, together with Samsung, we understand the important role we can play in making that happen.""
