Essendon and Collingwood will don their 2020 Anzac Appeal guernseys for their round five Friday night clash at the MCG to raise funds for current and former serving members of the Australian Defence Force.

Traditionally meeting on April 25 for the annual Anzac Day match, in 2020 the two rivals will join forces with RSL Victoria to recognise Australia's service men and women every day, not just on Anzac Day.

All profits from the sale of the 2020 Essendon Anzac Appeal guernsey, along with limited-edition commemorative badges, will be donated to the Anzac Appeal.

These funds will go towards RSL Victoria programs such as RSL Active, which offers a range of events and activities aimed to develop social networks, enhance support circles and improve mental and physical health outcomes through peer support.

RSL Victoria chief of veteran services Adam 'Buzz' Lawson said funds donated to the Anzac Appeal will help RSL Victoria facilitate peer support programs.

“By participating in programs with RSL Active, and that might be anything from bush walking, cycling or yoga, veterans are reconnecting with each other, and their families. The funds we raised through the Anzac Appeal help to make this possible," Lawson said.

Chief executive officer of RSL Victoria Jamie Twidale said Essendon and Collingwood have honoured the service and sacrifice of the women and men of the ADF for over 25 years.

"We are proud that this tradition continues this year between the two clubs. Anzac Day is a proud day for every Australian, and the respect shown by the Essendon and Collingwood fans every Anzac Day since 1995 is inspiring," Twidale said.

“By following through with their support for our veteran community through this game, we are proud to partner with the Essendon and Collingwood Football Clubs."

Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell said the club was proud to continue to work with Collingwood this year to support RSL Victoria.

“We are delighted to be continuing our support for the RSL Victoria branch with Collingwood for our round five game,” Campbell said.

“While the Anzac Day game itself was postponed this season, the Anzac Appeal supports Australian veterans and their families throughout the entire year. Fundraising for this campaign remains critical, so we’re pleased to continue this with Collingwood to recognise service men and women of Australia."
