The Bombers headed out to a windy and blustery Casey Fields to take on second placed Casey Scorpions chasing redemption after they were easily beaten by the Scorpions earlier in the season.

With a strong breeze, the Scorpions were kicking with a very favourable breeze to begin with and kicked their first goal within a matter of minutes. Casey piled on another one minutes after and things looked ominous.

However, the Bombers managed to limit the opportunities of Casey and only coughed up one more goal midway through the quarter before heading into the quarter time break with a 20 point deficit in front of them.

The Bombers only managed the single behind for the quarter.

Now it was Essendon’s turn to kick with the wind and the Bombers took full advantage with an early goal to David Hille from a 50 metre penalty. The Bombers then piled on another three goals to take the lead heading into half time, and managing to keep Casey scoreless for the majority of the quarter.

The first goal of the second half was going to be crucial to the way this game was going in such tough conditions and it was Hille again who stepped up, drilling a low spearing set shot through.

Unfortunately the Bombers suffered the loss of Hal Hunter in the early stages of the third quarter which seemed to be a lower leg injury with the tough Bomber having to be stretchered off the field.

However, the Scorpions then controlled ascendency of the match and took a 14 point lead into the final change.

The Bombers coming home with the breeze had the belief in the three quarter time huddle that they could run over the top of the Scorpions.

It was a great start in the final quarter with a quick kick out of the pack from a contest from Alex Browne and two quick goals from Alwyn Davey giving the red and black a seven point lead.

The Bombers also then lost defender Kyle Hardingham with what looked like a shoulder injury midway through the final term.

The Scorpions managed to kick one against the breeze through Jesse Hogan but a brilliant goal from the boundary from Matthew Firman all but sealed the game for the Bombers.

A few late misses from the Bombers could have meant a bigger margin but the Bombers now move on to the Bendigo Gold next Saturday at Windy Hill after a brilliant 11 point win over the second placed Casey Scorpions.
