Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro is pleased with the club’s ability to add height to its list at Wednesday’s Rookie Draft.
The Bombers selected young ruckman Fraser Thurlow with selection 9 and forward Patrick Ambrose with selection 26.
Dodoro said the club was satisfied with the outcome of Wednesday morning’s draft.
“What we wanted to do in this Draft was get some talls on our list, we picked up some on ballers in the National Draft and during the trade period,” Dodoro said.
“Today the emphasis was on talls, we were able to recruit two and we are relieved.”
“On our list we have Paddy Ryder, Tom Bellchambers and now we have another ruckman who is a fairly physical size.”
Premiership ruckman Darren Jolly had met with the club in recent days in the hope of earning a spot on the rookie list.

Dodoro said Jolly was on the Bombers radar before they decided to opt for youth.
“It was a tough call, we did speak to Darren and he is a quality person who really impressed us.” Dodoro said.
“He was comfortable that he was capable of playing at AFL level but we just felt that if a guy that has ten years of football left was there then we would take him.”
“Had Thurlow not have been there then certainly he would have been considered.”
The Bombers list for the 2014 season is now complete following the trade period, National Draft and Rookie Draft.
“Given that we had some restrictions during this period, we have had to think on our feet pretty quickly,” Dodoro said.
“When we lost our first two draft picks our strategy that we had planned all year went out the window.”
“Along with Cory Dell’Olio and Ariel Stienberg we feel we have four rookies who can step up and play AFL football next year.”
