Essendon forward Jason Winderlich has made a successful return from injury bagging three goals in Essendon’s convincing VFL win against Sandringham on Friday.

Winderlich was lively up forward playing just the one half in his first game of the 2013 season.

“It was a bit rusty early but once I got into the flow of it then it was good,” Winderlich said.

“Obvoiusly I would rather have kept playing than stop at half time but it is a long year and I am aiming to play 16 to 17 games this season.”

“I was happy to play a half and now next Friday night hopefully I will be able to play three quarters against Bendigo.”

Essendon’s AFL strong team ran out 75 point winners leading from start to finishing in a convincing display.

Cory Dell’Olio booted three goals up forward while the remainder of goals came from single goal kickers.

Big man David Hill was dominant throughout the entire game while Scott Gumbleton and Joe Daniher provided important targets up forward.

“David Hille was excellent for us all day and once again all around the ground he was good for us,” Coach Hayden Skipworth said after the game.

“There are lots of guys playing their role which is putting pressure on for senior selection.”

Defenders Tayte Pears and Ariel Steinberg were impressive for much of the game providing important repel out of defense.

“Tayte has had a great pre-season, he has been great in our practice matches as well.”

“With everyone fit someone has to miss and unfortunately it is him.”

Skipworth also praised the game of second year player Nick O’Brien who continues to provide a target across the half forward line.

Through the midfield recruit Will Hams continued to show his toughness and ability to win the ball while Leroy Jetta was instrumental from clearances winning plenty of possession and using it well.

Essendon’s VFL team plays their first home and away match of the season next Friday night at Queen Elizazbeth Oval against Bendigo.
