After eight seasons and at 25 years of age Bombers big man Patrick Ryder believes he is ready to take his game to the next level.

Throughout his 149 matches in the red and black Ryder has been commonly criticised for his inconsistency, a stigma he is confident of shaking in 2014.

“I spoke to Simon Goodwin at the end of the season and he said that as a football player he saw my football really mature in the second half of the season so I am looking forward to getting back out there and progressing on that,” Ryder said.

“The next couple of years are likely to be the biggest couple of years of my footy career so I am looking forward to what is in store.”

“Now that I have experience behind me I am really looking forward to getting out there and performing consistently.”

Ryder is buoyed by the recent re-signing of fellow big man Tom Bellchambers to a new two year deal with the club.

The 197cm big man is confident he can partner with Bellchambers to form the most potent ruck combination to be feared next season.

“We don’t get the accolades that others in the competition get but we have played some pretty good football together,” Ryder said.

“Tommy and I will be coming out next year to hopefully become the number one ruck combination in the AFL and take the team forward.”

 “To have Tommy sign back on is going to be massive for the side over the next couple of years as he has really grown as a player and when he is out there you know what you are going to get from him.”

Ryder booted just ten goals in 2013, his worst return in front of the big sticks since 2008 when he managed just five goals.

 “I have to keep working on my contested marking, taking marks and kicking goals down there.”

“It is not really my natural position so I just need to keep working on it.”

“Matt Egan has been massive for me in that he is always on to me about doing extras and keeping in touch so he has been very good.”
