Bombers more accessible in 2014
Essendon coach Mark Thompson has committed to members to make the club more accessible and open during the 2014 season.
Speaking at Monday night’s AGM Thompson said it was important everyone involved with the club rallied together to repair the damage that had been done over the last 12 months.
“Let’s just be really tight and grow this football club again because it has been damaged and it is not good enough,” Thompson said.
“We are committed to rebuilding and being part of something great.”
The Bombers coach encouraged fans to visit the True Value Solar Centre to watch the players train.
“We have made a pact to open up the club so you can come and watch training any time you want,” he said.
“If you want to watch us train and be part of the club, we have a café out there, we will sign an autograph for you or take a photo with you.”
“It has been a very hard year for our club but I think we should be focusing as hard as we can on going forward and concentrate on 2014, 2015, 2016 and rebuilding this club to the great club it was.”
“I can tell you from the football department all our efforts and focus are on that.“
Thompson said he was confident the club was doing the right things to ensure it continued to improve both on and off the field.
“I have got no doubts we have got the right people here, I have no doubts we have got the facility, we will continue to work on our structures and the way we do things,” he said.
“Everything we do at this football club is now making us a better football team and making us a better football club.”
Thompson pointed out the improvement among the group over the last few seasons under James Hird and said he would not be making any dramatic changes to the game plan.
“Nothing much will change, I know the system, I know how to coach and I am just going to fill the seat for a little bit.”
