Essendon legend Jack Clarke is one of four club greats up for nomination as the next past player to be honoured on the club’s 2014-15 heritage guernsey
Clarke played 263 games for the Bombers between 1951-67 including captaining the team from 1958-64.
A gentleman, family man, brilliant scholar and schoolboy athlete, football became Clarke’s sport of choice.
Known for his agile side step and baulk he won two best and fairest awards in 1958 and 1962 as well as playing two premierships during 1962 and 1965.
Off the field Clarke forged a career in architecture and off the field he was everybody’s friend.
He represented Victoria on 27 occasions and was named All Australian three times.
Following his playing career Clarke went on to coach the Bombers between 1968-70 almost winning a premiership in his first season in charge, losing to Carlton by three points in the grand final.
In 1996 he was inducted into the Australian Football League Hall of Fame and was named in Essendon’s Team of the Century.
