Captain Jobe Watson is the only Essendon player eligible to become an All Australian in 2013 after being the sole nomination in the 40-man squad released by the league on Tuesday.
Watson received his first All Australian honour in 2012 to go along side his Brownlow Medal and best and fairest wins.
Watson played just 19 matches this season after injuring his collarbone in Round 15 against Port Adelaide.
He averaged 27 disposals and 5 clearances a game this season to go along with 16 goals.
The Bombers skipper was once again an inspirational leader in 2013 as he led the club’s playing group in one of its toughest off-field seasons.
His consistent performances combined with leadership ability will ensure he is in strong contention to be selected in the final 22.
Key defensive duo Michael Hibberd and Jake Carlisle had both been tipped by many experts to be selected in the team however Watson was the sole nomination.
The final 22 will be announced at the Four N Twenty awards evening on Monday September 16.
