Essendon great Scott Lucas is set to be inducted into the club's Hall of Fame at the 2013 Season Launch and Hall of Fame Induction.

Lucas, who retired in 2009 after fourteen seasons with the Bombers, finished his career as one of the club’s most popular and respected players.

A member of the 2000 Premiership side and a dual best and fairest winner, Scott says he’s humbled to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

"It's a huge honour to be acknowledged by the club in this way,” Lucas said.

“Having had a career at Essendon and played at a club that I loved for a long time with some great people, played with some great guys and had team success so to receive this acknowledgement is very satisfying and humbling.

After he debuted on Anzac Day in 1996, Scott went on to play 270 games and kick 471 goals for the Bombers. His remarkable efforts see him sit ninth on the club’s list for most games played and sixth on the leading goal-kicker list.

"You walk into a club like Essendon at 17 and you’re fortunate enough to meet some great people and have some great mentors who can assist you not only with your football but through life. It was a privilege to play for the club over a long journey and I think any player that has the honour of wearing the Essendon jumper should feel very privileged."

Lucas was gifted with a booming left foot and outstanding athletic ability. An integral contributor to the Bombers’ success over his career, he developed a reputation as a big game player and was a key figure in the club winning its 16th flag in 2000.

Despite his on-field talent, long time team-mate and fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Matthew Lloyd, says he will remember Lucas for his strength of character.

"As a team mate, he was one of the most loyal Essendon people you could possibly have. It was an absolute pleasure to walk into the club with him and after 15 years leave with him as a lifelong friend that I'm as close to now as I was in my playing days. It's been a great time together." Lloyd said.

The 2013 Season Launch and Hall of Fame Induction will be held on March 4 at Peninsula, Central Pier Docklands from 6.30pm. Tickets are still available for Essendon’s major event of the year.
