Simon Goodwin has signalled his intentions to become a senior coach saying he will take part in the process of becoming the Bombers senior coach in 2014.
Goodwin filled the void in the Bombers Round 23 match against Richmond after James Hird was given a 12-month suspension.
"It would be a great opportunity to stay (at Essendon) and be a part of it next year," Goodwin said.
“To coach a team is something I have been aspiring to do for the last eight years, even the last five years when I was playing I wanted to be a senior coach.”
“Whether it is now or it is in the future we will just have to wait and see.”
The Bombers assistant coach confirmed he had been through the interview process for the Brisbane Lions senior coaching vacancy.
Goodwin said if he failed in his bid to become the Lions new coach he would definitely want to stay at the Bombers.
“I really do love and respect the people at Essendon,” Goodwin told AFL Game Day.
“The players there have been incredible and we have been on a fairly lengthy journey together for the last three years so it would be a great opportunity to be there and stay next year.”
Key forward Stewart Crameri is continuing to weigh up a big offer from the Western Bulldogs and Goodwin said the club would not rush Crameri into making a decision on his future.
“Stew is a required player at the footy club, he is a really important member of our team, the players really respect him, they love him and we want to keep him,” he said.
“We understand that there is some big offers out there for Stew and we will respect that decision.”
