Essendon coach Mark Thompson is confident Jake Carlisle and Joe Daniher will form a dangerous forward line in the future.
The pair proved important during Friday night’s win against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
“If we can get Jake Carlisle and Joe Daniher playing well together, they are both 200cms tall and they are both agile, that would be a really dangerous mix,” Thompson said.
Paul Chapman (4 goals), Brendon Goddard (3) and Jobe Watson (2) were important in the Bomber attack in the 39-point win.
Thompson said the club’s midfield group would continue to prove important moving forward this season.
“We have to be prepared for people in the middle to have an impact on the game somewhere else,” he said.
“They can still have that impact in the middle but also we have to score and we have lost a bit of power in the forward line so we need to be able to generate goals.”
“It doesn’t really matter what part of the ground they play on (Watson, Goddard, Stanton), they are all good players and would rather play in the midfield but if you put them forward they still win the ball.”
“When they win the ball there they are close to goal and hopefully they kick some.”

Goddard said he was confident Carlisle and Daniher were on the right track to becoming a dominant forward line.
“With Jake and Joe down there they are two imposing figures who are going to be hard to stop.”
“Jake has been a great backman but now he has to evolve his game as a forward.”
“I thought Carlisle last night, even though to him he wouldn’t have liked his game, he did what the team needed him to do.”
“Joe is obviously still developing but we see little bits of how damaging and how hard he can be to play on. He has a great attitude and works really hard as well.”
