The Bomber Backline got a chance to re-group after the disappointing loss to Melbourne this week at La Luna restaurant in Carlton North.
Defensive coach Matthew Egan along with Dustin Fletcher, Michael Hurley, Jake Carlisle, Michael Hibberd and the rest of the group took advantage the time away from the club.
“We don’t get many opportunities to get away from the club and spend time together,” Egan said.
"So we’re pretty lucky to be at La Luna and get a nice feed together.”
Apart from the fantastic food, La Luna restaurant has a strong connection with the Essendon Football Club with head chef, Adrian Richardson, having a significant role to play for the club.
“My job is to look after the Chairman’s culinary dinners,” said Richardson.
“I design the menus and work with the catering companies at the MCG to make sure the food is really nice and give the whole event a bit of sparkle.
“Instead of having the regular catering food which is good most the time we put a bit of La Luna bistro spark into it and it makes it an interesting event.
Richardson, an Essendon supporter, has a deep passion for his job that mirrors in his dishes.
“I’ve been a Bomber supporter since I was a little kid. I went to school right opposite Windy Hill, so it was natural that I had to go for the Bombers.”
“I like working with the chefs there and Essendon about just putting together a menu that really fits the day.”
“The thing about food and cooking is it always makes people happy. They come in and they’re hungry and then you fill them up with some lovely food and they walk out with a warm feeling in their belly- that’s a giveaway.”
The final Culinary Chairman’s Function for 2014 will take place in round 17 against Collingwood on 13th July at the MCG.
