Essendon face a massive challenge travelling over to the Adelaide Oval this Saturday night to tackle Port Adelaide.

The Bombers have matched up well with the Power in recent years, winning the last four matches between the two sides.

Essendonfc.com.au explores the key match ups that loom in Saturday night’s encounter with the Power.

Dyson Heppell vs. Ollie Wines

These two young-guns have become key players in their respective sides so early in their careers. Both have dominated in the midfield in recent times, providing class and direction beyond their years.

Heppell provided the Bombers with a career best 40-disposal effort during their loss to the Cats last Friday night, beginning to lift his status as the number one midfielder in the team during Jobe Watson’s absence.

Wines continues to be an ultra-consistent ball gatherer, picking up 29 disposals last weekend. He has just dropped below 25 disposals in a match four times in just his second season.

Expect these two to be jumping into packs together this weekend trying to get the ball going the way of their respective teams.

Travis Colyer vs. Matthew White

If these two livewires are to cross paths during the match, you better not blink because you might miss it! Both Matthew White and Trav Colyer pack some serious pace, arguably two of the fastest players in the competition.

White’s amazing goal against Adelaide was almost identical to the goal by Colyer Friday night. Both taking several running bounces and burning opponents off with blistering speed.

It could be something of an Olympic 100 meter sprint if these two are to chase one another along the wing on Saturday night.

David Myers vs. Hamish Hartlett

Myers and Hartlett have been much maligned by their respective supporters over their careers, promising so much after being high draft picks with superb skills. Both have been brought down by several injuries over the journey.

Now reaching the peak of their careers, both have seemed to turned the corner and have been playing consistently over the last season and a half.

Myers and Hartlett have been know at times to lose themselves during games and go quiet, but when they are on, they are match winners - both possessing booming left-foot kicks, great goal sense and line-breaking pace.

Both Myers and Hartlett could be the difference Saturday night, making this match up vital to the result.

Cale Hooker vs. Jay Schulz

Hooksy and Schulz will go at it Saturday night, which is shaping as a defining match up.

Hooker clearly having his the best season of his career to date continues to go from strength-to-strength down back for the Bombers.

Schulz had a reasonably quiet game during the Power’s loss to Adelaide last week with just two goals. He has been in great form this season though with 45 goals from the first 15 rounds of the season.

Hooker will put plenty of work into the Power's leading goalkicker and will try to put the muzzle on him early, as he remains a confidence player whose match is usually determined on early possessions.
