Former Essendon player and current Victorian Minister for Sport & Recreation Hugh Delahunty has pledged his support to the club’s Flight Plan initiative.
Delahunty has shown his support for the club’s new home base, the True Value Solar Centre, through sponsorship of current Bomber Ben Howlett’s locker.
Delahunty played 46 games for the Bombers in the number 40 between 1971 and 1973.
“I was fortunate enough to play 46 games with the Bombers and my number was number 40 so when the opportunity came up to put my name on the locker I thought why not grab a part of history,” Delahunty said.
“Moving out here to the True Value Solar Centre is a special place and I wanted to be a part of it.”
“The club has treated me very well, I have had great opportunities presented to me thanks to my involvement with Essendon and I wanted to give a bit back to the club.”
Howlett said it was an honour to have former players throwing their support behind the current team.
“I hadn’t met Hugh before but he has obviously been a big part of the football club before I arrived,” Howlett said.
“Something about our club is that we are rich in history and I think it is a great honour to have him sponsor my locker.”
“I think it is great to get as many past players through to experience this new facility as possible considering they were at Windy Hill for so long.”
