Essendon VFL will draw upon its Round-19 victory over Footscray when the teams face off in this Saturday’s Semi-final.
It’s been just three weeks since the VFL Dons narrowly downed the Dogs by five points under lights in Bendigo.
“I think the boys will take a lot of confidence,” VFL Coach Hayden Skipworth said.
“The first time we played them this season they got on top pretty convincingly, but we narrowly got the win in Bendigo against them which was a fantastic result and hopefully they will take it into Saturday.”
The side welcomes back seven Bombers who played in the AFL side’s final match of the season.
Shaun McKernan, Kyle Langford, Orazio Fantasia, Tayte Pears, Elliott Kavanagh, Shaun Edwards and Conor McKenna all come into the side for Saturday.
“They bring back that experience,” Skipworth said.
“Any time you get a taste of senior level it’s fantastic opportunity and hopefully they can bring what they’ve learnt back to the VFL, play their role and contribute which is what we ask of everyone.”
Skipworth takes the VFL coaching reins after the AFL side finished its season last weekend.
Skipworth has looked after stoppage duties at AFL level throughout the season, while Paul Corrigan was called upon to look after the defensive coaching in the last three games after Matthew Egan was appointed Interim Senior Coach.
“Myself and Paul Corrigan will be back,” Skipworth said.
“‘Corra’ will look after the backs, I’ll obviously coach and ‘Harry’ (Mark Corrigan) will go back to doing the forwards.
“We’ve had a lot of changes this year, but it’s the same message, just a different voice.”
