Essendon is continuing to work with Port Adelaide to secure a deal for ruckman Paddy Ryder ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.

The clubs today held mediation talks in regards to trying to get a deal done ahead of tomorrow's 2pm deadline.

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro told essendonfc.com.au the club was still hopeful of getting a deal done for Ryder.

Greater Western Sydney big man Jonathan Giles has nominated Essendon as his preferred home with a deal expected to be done on Thursday.

Giles has played 51 games for the Giants and is expected to add ruck depth to the Bombers list as well as the ability to move forward to provide an option.

2008 Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney is linked to the club and may be part of a trade on the final day of the exchange period.

Cooney has indicated he is deciding between joining Essendon and North Melvourne with the Bulldogs willing to do a deal for the hard running midfielder.
