Mark Neeld can not wait to begin his new role with the Bombers after always harbouring a passion for development coaching.
After working with AFL Victoria as a Talent Manager for the last twelve months, Neeld was announced as the Bombers new Head of Player Development on Wednesday.
"Working in the TAC Cup through AFL Victoria is seen as a pathway for staff, coaches and players so being involved at that level getting back into the AFL system is always something that may happen," Neeld said.
"As things worked out, the opportunity arose and I jumped at it."
Neeld revealed he had spoken to development coaches at other AFL clubs to determine if the role was suited to him.
"It is something that I have always been passionate about and this year again seeing football at that development level has been great," he said.
"I have had the opportunity to get out and talk to people who hold similar roles in the AFL and their experiences certainly led for me to grab this opportunity when it arose."
The former Melbourne coach won premierships in charge of Ocean Grove, before experience coaching the Western Jets in the TAC Cup and four years as an assistant coach at Collingwood alongside Mick Malthouse.
"I see it as something I really want to sink my teeth into and work with the other Essendon coaching staff," Neeld said.
"There is a lot of work to be done.
"When you get to work with people such as the coaches at Essendon this year, what you find is footy people are outstanding at working out exactly what their role is and going ahead to play that role."
Neeld praised Essendon General Manager Football Performance Neil Craig who he worked closely with in his time at the Demons.
"Neil Craig is an outstanding football person and I have had the pleasure of working with him before," he said.
"He has this aura of getting people to want to work with him and he is full of energy with a broad experience through his working life and working with people like that I really enjoy."
