Essendon forward Jason Winderlich is confident he has dodged serious knee damage from an incident in Saturday night's win over the Western Bulldogs.

Winderlich limped from the field late in the final quarter after Adam Cooney landed awkwardly across his knee during a running shot on goal.

The veteran live wire was feeling positive about his prognosis on Sunday morning.

"It didn't feel good when Coons first fell across it and it was pretty painful," Winderlich said.

"So far the signs aren't too bad this morning which is good."

"There is no major structural damage so I will just have to head to the beach for plenty of recovery now."

"I went and saw the doctor and the physios this morning and if it is still sore tomorrow then we will double check it."

Winderlich had to undergo a knee reconstruction in 2011 when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Carlton in round 4.

"I thought it would be close (to having torn my ACL)," Winderlich said.

"When I did my left one it was excruciating pain and the pain last night wasn't as bad but it felt like my whole knee got stretched."
