Essendon defender Ariel Steinberg has been named the 2014 R.A. Freeman Medal as the club’s VFL best and fairest winner.
Steinberg standout season was recognised in front of a full house at Crown Palladium on Wednesday night.
VFL Coach Hayden Skipworth praised Steinberg’s stand out season.
"Ariel was clearly our best and most consistent player for the season at VFL level and taking out the best and fairest is great reward for his efforts,” Skipworth said.
“It was fantastic to see him play some games in the AFL side at the end of the season including in the elimination final.”
“The experience he will gain from those games at AFL level will hold him in great stead moving forward.”
“If he can continue to develop as he has over the last few years he is going to turn himself into a really good AFL player."
Steinberg won the award by four votes from Nick O’Brien with Daniel Coghlan coming in third place.
